Bradley’s work log

Hello parents, students, and fellow teaching staff! It has been a wonderful  semester this 2021-2022 school year here at Jianye Foreign Language Middle School. I’m Bradley Beller, one of the teachers here. I’d like to thank everyone for putting in a lot of work over these last several months. You are all working really hard.  I wish everyone many blessings and luck for our future together next semester. 

This last semester was challenging for many of the students because they are learning the accents and communication styles of the people around them. Also, they are becoming familiar with teaching styles and expectations that people have for them. This is not an easy task, but our students are strong and persevering. I’ve seen several of the students overcome language barriers to attempt to have greater communication with me. 

Jerry, who loves to stop and talk when I’m in the classroom, regularly talks with me about different things that he is thinking about and wants to know more about. I’ve noticed that Dolphin is very studious and works hard to complete many different tasks on time. Peter, Alice, Ryan, and Phoebe are very outgoing and love to talk a lot. Most of the rest of the class is learning about each other and creating social groups to be a part of. I’ve noticed that students really enjoy being around each other and goofing off in their free time. 

Personally, I’m working on recreating my plans and lessons for the next semester. Most of this semester was dedicated to basic study skills and getting the students to work together. This was challenging when students didn’t know the expectations that they have. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking and planning for our next semester. 

After learning about some popular trends here and around the world. I’ve noticed that people are doing a lot of media that deals with talking and communicating with others about interesting topics. I personally love learning about new things and things that people are making. For this reason, the students will be learning about interviewing other people, how to make questions to keep conversations going, recording equipment, creating a podcast, and studying about inventions. At the end of this semester, each group of students will make an interview with someone that talks about an invention and why it is important. They will record and edit these items and submit them as a final project. I have purchased all of the things that will be required for them to make these small stories. However, the students can buy their own equipment to continue this in the future. 

I’m really looking forward to this next semester and experimenting with the students to create something enjoyable to listen to and learn about. I hope that students will be able to take the skills of interviewing people to foster curiosity in other subjects that they are taking over the next few years and beyond.
