Rhys’ work log

I’m the IB Drama teacher this year! And so far it’s been a pleasure!

One of the best aspects of teaching the IB program this semester is the fun and engagement that they students have brought to class! From telling simple fairytales in a series of images, to expressing unique stories and themes clearly. 

We had a chance to work with green screen images to get a better understanding how tableaux works and how best to learn some of the skills that we’ve been learning – for example blocking drama in order for the audience to understand I receive the message.

We also used tableaux to discuss stereotypes, status and relationships between characters and tried to understand why it is useful to use such imagery  

This semester it has been great getting to know how my students learn. 

I find that it’s important to allow our student to take the mantle of the expert, allowing them the opportunity to impart their knowledge on a situation or topic allows for much great discussion on themes and ideas in class! 

Our first semester has allowed us to gain an foot hold of new skills to help us create dramatic performance. 

We have learnt about tableaux, thought tracking, cannon, audience,

mi-seen scene and blocking! 

We’ve reviewed our weekly lessons what we have learnt and how we feel we can achieve more .I hope the student can reflect on the work that they are doing in class and the attitude that they bring! 

I’m glad to say that our students have had a great first semester! 

They have thrown themselves in to making some great creative moments! Focusing on telling simple stories and developing them into more complex ideas

The enthusiasm and energy that many of the students bring to class is infections and encourages all to participate to the best of their ability! 

Next semester I hoping the students will join class with a renewed enthusiasm to explore their creative and performative side! 

It would also be expected that students keep unrelated conversations and activities out of class! 

Let’s focus on developing our skills this semester and creating a supportive environment for everybody to thrive! 

This semester we will be studying improve, devising and Shakespearean script work! I’m hoping that all of our students can come to class with an open mind and a willingness to learn!
